Running and Hydration

I didn’t end up doing the marathon this year, much like last year. Different reason, mind you – I got thoroughly bored during training, mainly I assume because I didn’t take a break over the Christmas period. Also, I’m not sure my Camelbak Octane XCT was helping; the size and weight of the thing made the long runs a bit too much of an effort, and it really wasn’t that comfortable at all while running. No problems with it on a bike, mind you, but for running, it just didn’t feel right.

So I’ve just ordered a Camelbak Delaney Race, which is a lot smaller, therefore contains far less water. However, I figure for my training runs, if I’m going on something ludicrously long, I’ll just aim for a shop half way though and go buy some more water. That’s better than lugging it around for 20 miles, right? Who knows, but I think it’s worth a try.

I’ve not run for 3 months, aside from a slow crawl for about 4 miles with my sister. Went out today, have not lost any pace, which I think has probably been helped by the significant amount of cycling I’ve been doing these past 3 months instead of running. The weather hasn’t exactly been helpful either. It’s been the wettest April, June and Q2 on record, and records go back over 100 years, so it’s been pretty damp. Damn that polar jet stream not being in the right place.
